WCL constructs sewage treatment plant at Kalpataru Special School under CSR

17 May 2025, Nagpur – Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) has taken an important initiative under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and has constructed a sewage treatment plant, a lift and a compound wall at Kalpataru Special School, Butibori, Nagpur. On 17.05.2025, WCL General Manager (CSR) Shri G. Sitaraman inaugurated these works at Kalpataru Special School. The total cost of this project, completed with the financial support of WCL, was Rs 28.17 lakh (rupees).

In his address during the inauguration ceremony, Shri G. Sitaraman said that the inaugurated sewage treatment plant will purify 7 to 10 thousand liters of wastewater per day and this water will be used for gardening. This will keep the school campus clean, green and environmentally balanced. He said that the compound wall has not only ensured the boundaries of the school but also created a safe environment for 118 students, 45 staff members and daily visitors. Also, keeping in mind the convenience and mobility of students with special needs, the lift installed has made their movement simple and dignified.

He further said that through this CSR collaboration, WCL has not only strengthened the infrastructure of the school but has also taken a commendable step towards the all-round development of special children by ensuring a clean, safe and respectful environment for them.

The function was attended by dignitaries along with school staff, students and parents.

It is known that Kalpataru Special School is run by Sandhya Samvardhan Sanstha, which has been working in the field of rehabilitation and overall development of mentally challenged children since the year 1993. At present, this institution provides education, therapy and vocational training to more than 118 children, including children suffering from autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and multiple disabilities. The objective of the organization is to make these special children self-reliant and give them a respectable place in the society.
