New Delhi, February 3, 2026: Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI), Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), V.O. Chidambarnar Port Authority (VOC Port), Chennai Port Authority (CPA), and Sagarmala Finance Corporation Ltd. (SMFCL) for the formation of a proposed joint venture company, Bharat Container Shipping Line (BCSL).

The MoU was executed on February 3, 2026, in New Delhi and has been disclosed to BSE Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.

The proposed joint venture follows the announcement made by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on October 29, 2025, during India Maritime Week 2025, regarding the launch of India’s first national container shipping line. The initiative is aimed at strengthening India’s maritime economy and improving ease of doing business through enhanced logistics integration.

According to the MoU, Bharat Container Shipping Line is proposed to be formed for acquiring, owning, leasing, and operating container vessels, containers, and related logistics assets to support export-import (EXIM) and coastal trade. The collaboration seeks to provide comprehensive end-to-end logistics solutions by integrating port-based services with land and sea-based transportation, leveraging the combined expertise of all participating entities.

CONCOR stated that the MoU marks a significant step toward operationalising Bharat Container Shipping Line and aligns with the Government of India’s broader vision under the Sagarmala programme to strengthen coastal and container shipping capabilities.
