NALCO Signs Tech Pact with EGA for Angul Smelter Expansion
New Delhi: National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has signed a Technology Licensing Agreement with Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA).
The agreement was signed today in Dubai for the deployment of EGA’s UAE-developed DX+ Ultra aluminium smelting technology.
It will be used for NALCO’s 0.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) brownfield smelter expansion project at Angul (Anugola), Odisha.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Shri Brijendra Pratap Singh, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NALCO, and Mr. Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer, EGA.
NALCO was represented by Shri Biju K, Chief General Manager (Projects).
EGA was represented by Mr. Abdalla Zarouni, Acting Executive Vice President – Midstream.
Senior NALCO directors, including Director (Projects & Technical) and Director (Finance), also attended the ceremony.
What the Agreement Covers
Under the pact, EGA will provide NALCO with the technology licence, know-how, designs and technical information required for implementing the DX+ Ultra technology.
Technical support will also be extended during various stages of project implementation.
DX+ Ultra is a high-amperage and efficient aluminium smelting technology designed for higher productivity and improved energy performance.
Capacity Impact
The brownfield expansion will add approximately 0.5 MTPA of aluminium production capacity at Angul.
Together with NALCO’s existing capacity, this will take the company’s overall aluminium production capacity towards about 1 million tonnes per annum.

Shri Brijendra Pratap Singh, CMD, NALCO, said the adoption of this advanced technology will help the Angul expansion emerge as one of the most efficient aluminium smelters in India.
He added that the project will support NALCO’s growth plans, strengthen India’s aluminium ecosystem and contribute to economic growth and environmental efficiency.
The partnership marks a significant step in NALCO’s expansion programme under the guidance of the Ministry of Mines, Government of India.
