Ms. S. Usha Takes Over as Director (Market Operation), GRID-INDIA

New Delhi: Ms. S. Usha has assumed charge as Director (Market Operation), GRID-INDIA, w.e.f. 28/01/2026, becoming the first woman to hold this position. A 1989-batch B. Tech (Electrical Engineering) graduate from Calicut University, she brings over 35 years of rich experience in the Indian power sector across CEA, POWERGRID, and GRID-INDIA. Prior to this, she was holding the post of Executive Director, National Load Despatch Centre, GRID-INDIA, and has made notable contributions to power market reforms and the secure operation of the National Grid.

With her vast domain expertise and proven leadership, Ms. Usha, in her present role, will be looking after the market operations, regulatory implementation, and system efficiency functions at GRID-INDIA, providing strategic direction to electricity market development while reinforcing GRID-INDIA’s commitment to inclusive and progressive governance.

Her appointment is being seen as a significant milestone for gender diversity in India’s power sector leadership. As Director (Market Operation), Ms. Usha is expected to play a key role in strengthening electricity market mechanisms, enhancing grid reliability, and supporting the evolving regulatory framework in line with India’s growing renewable energy integration and power market reforms. Her leadership is also expected to contribute towards ensuring transparent, efficient, and resilient market operations amid increasing complexities in the national power system.
