Rajesh Kumar Chandel Assumes Charge as Director (Projects) of SJVN
New Delhi, 11 June 2026: Rajesh Kumar Chandel has assumed charge as Director (Projects) of SJVN Limited, a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Power, Government of India.
He was welcomed at SJVN's Liaison Office in New Delhi by Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta, Director (Personnel) Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Finance) Parthajit De, Chief Vigilance Officer Pankaj Porwal and other senior officials.
Brings More Than 35 Years of Experience
Rajesh Kumar Chandel is a seasoned power sector professional with more than 35 years of experience, specializing in hydroelectric project planning, execution, monitoring and international coordination across India, Nepal and Bhutan.
Prior to his appointment, he was serving as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the CMD of SJVN.
Led Key Projects in Nepal
Before taking over as OSD, Chandel served as Chief Executive Officer of SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company Pvt. Ltd. (SAPDC) and SJVN Lower Arun Power Development Company Private Limited (SLPDC), overseeing the development of the 900 MW Arun-3 Hydro Electric Project and the 669 MW Lower Arun Hydro Electric Project in Nepal.
Instrumental in Bhutan's 1,020 MW Punatsangchhu Project
As Managing Director and Member Secretary of Punatsangchhu Hydro Electric Power Authority (PHPA-II) in Bhutan, Chandel played a key role in commissioning the 1,020 MW Punatsangchhu Hydro Electric Project.
He also headed the 66 MW Dhaulasidh Hydro Electric Project in 2020 and contributed nearly eight years to the construction of the Head Race Tunnel of the 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station in Himachal Pradesh.
Educational Background
Born on September 14, 1971, in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh, Rajesh Kumar Chandel holds a degree in Civil Engineering and an MBA. He is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (India) and a Chartered Engineer.
He joined SJVN on May 5, 1994, after beginning his career with HIMUDA in 1990.
