RailTel, CSC signs MoU to provide digital services
The partnership will leverage each other's strength for increasing broadband penetration in rural and urban areas for bridging digital divide
New Delhi: RailTel Corporation of India Ltd. and CSC have signed MOU on Thursday, December 2, to provide digital services through kiosks at Railway stations utilizing RailTel's RailWire Saathi Kiosks & Wi-Fi network.
The partnership will leverage each other's strength for increasing broadband penetration in rural and urban areas for bridging the digital divide
RailTel Corporation of India Ltd. is under the ownership of Indian Railways, Ministry of Railways, Government of India focusing on providing broadband and VPN services. RailTel was formed in September 2000 with the objective of creating nationwide broadband, telecom and multimedia network, to modernize the train control operation and safety system of Indian Railways. RailTel's network passes through around 5,000 stations across the country, covering all major commercial centres.
About CSC:
Common Service Centres (CSC) are physical facilities for delivering Government of India e-Services to rural and remote locations where availability of computers and Internet was negligible or mostly absent. They are a multiple-services single-point model for providing facilities for multiple transactions at a single geographical location.
CSCs are the access points for the delivery of essential public utility services, social welfare schemes, healthcare, financial, education, and agriculture services, apart from a host of B2C services to citizens in rural and remote areas of the country. It is a pan-India network catering to the regional, geographic, linguistic, and cultural diversity of the country, thus enabling the Government's mandate of a socially, financially, and digitally inclusive society.
