India’s largest private thermal power producer, Adani Power Ltd completed the acquisition and resolution plan of Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd.

New Delhi: India’s largest private thermal power producer, Adani Power Ltd (APL) successfully completed the acquisition and resolution plan of Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd (VIPL) for the implementation of an aggregate amount of Rs 4,000 crore. Located in Butibori, Nagpur district in Maharashtra, the VIPL is a 2x300 MW of domestic coal-fired power plant.
Currently, the power plant is under the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).
The plan was subsequently implemented on July 7 after the Mumbai Bench of National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has approved the Adani Power’s resolution plan on 18th June 2025.

With this acquisition, APL will take its operating capacity to 18,150 MW and will further undertake the expansion of its base load power generation portfolio through a combination of brownfield and greenfield projects.
Currently, the company is constructing six brownfield Ultrasupercritical power plants (USCTPP) of 1600 MW each at its existing locations at Singrauli-Mahan in Madhya Pradesh, Raipur, Raigarh, and Korba in Chhattisgarh, and Kawai in Rajasthan, in addition to a 1,600 MW greenfield USCTPP at Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh.
