Union Minister Felicitates Delhi Metro Enthusiast for 24-Year First-Train Tradition
New Delhi, March 12, 2026: Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Sh. Tokhan Sahu, felicitated Sh. Anil Marwah, a dedicated Delhi Metro enthusiast, for maintaining a remarkable 24-year tradition of riding the first train on the inauguration day of every new Delhi Metro corridor. The ceremony was held in New Delhi, with Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), in attendance.
A Personal Milestone in Metro History
Sh. Marwah began his tradition in 2002, coinciding with the launch of the Delhi Metro, and has never missed a first ride on any new corridor since. Reflecting on his experience, he highlighted how the Metro has revolutionized urban commuting by improving connectivity, reducing dependence on road transport, and easing travel stress for millions of residents.
He praised the Metro’s punctuality, reliability, and convenience, noting that it has become one of the most efficient and commuter-friendly modes of transport in the national capital.
Union Minister’s Remarks
Congratulating Sh. Marwah, Sh. Tokhan Sahu said such stories demonstrate the deep emotional connection citizens share with the Delhi Metro. He described the Metro as a transformative urban mobility solution and a symbol of India’s modern infrastructure growth.
Sh. Sahu also recalled that the Delhi Metro project was initiated during the tenure of the National Democratic Alliance government led by former Prime Minister Sh. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, whose vision laid the foundation for metro systems across India, triggering rapid expansion in urban rail networks nationwide.
