SECL Hosts Grand Coal India Inter-Company Chess Competition 2025-26
New Delhi, 12 March 2026: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) hosted the grand inauguration of the Coal India Inter-Company Chess Competition 2025-26 at the Vasant Club, Vasant Vihar Township. The event was graced by Shri Biranchi Das, Director (Human Resources), SECL, as the chief guest.
The three-day competition, scheduled from 12–14 March 2026, features participants from all eight subsidiaries of Coal India Limited along with Singrauli Collieries Company Limited. The tournament promises a thrilling display of strategic thinking, patience, and tactical brilliance across 64 squares.
Key Highlights from the Inauguration

Shri Biranchi Das, in his address, emphasized that chess is not just a game but a perfect blend of strategy, planning, and decision-making—skills that are essential both on the chessboard and in professional life. He administered the players’ oath, encouraging all participants to compete with integrity and sportsmanship.

Cultural performances included a welcome song, the traditional Karma dance of Chhattisgarh, and a mesmerizing Odissi dance performance, adding vibrancy to the event.

Representatives from SECL Welfare Board, various departmental heads, Joint Consultative Committee members, Regional Welfare Committee members, and trade union representatives attended the inauguration, engaging with players and offering their best wishes.

The ceremony included welcome speech by Shri G. Shyamala Rao, GM (Welfare), stage management by Shri Sheikh Zakir Hussain, Chief Manager (Environment), and vote of thanks by Shri Vivek Kumar Singh, Senior Manager (Welfare).
