New Delhi: POWERGRID Ltd, India’s leading power transmission company, has announced board approval for the merger of 28 wholly owned subsidiaries (WOS) into 2 entities. This decision was made during the board meeting held on March 19, 2026, superseding an earlier proposal from December 20, 2025, which involved the merger of 11 WOS into 2 entities.

The merger is subject to approval from statutory, regulatory, or government authorities and is part of POWERGRID’s broader strategy to consolidate business operations, simplify the organizational structure, and achieve higher operational efficiency.

The initial proposal, approved in December 2025, aimed to merge 11 subsidiaries into 2, focusing on streamlining administrative tasks and enhancing management efficiency. The updated March 2026 plan expands this initiative to include 28 subsidiaries, reflecting POWERGRID’s commitment to creating unified entities that optimize resources and strengthen governance.
