BPCL Mumbai Refinery commissioned fully automated sanitary napkin manufacturing unit in Khardi village

New Delhi, May 28, 2025: On this Menstrual Hygiene Day, BPCL celebrates empowerment, change and dignity by turning a challenge into an opportunity. BPCL’s Mumbai Refinery has commissioned a fully automated sanitary napkin manufacturing unit in the remote village of Khardi in Thane, Maharashtra.

Local women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) were trained in every aspect — from machine operation to production, packaging, and business management, which enabled them to produce 150–200 sanitary napkin packets daily (7 napkins per pack), with over 22,000 packets already distributed.

Today, each woman earns around Rs 10,000 per month, with many experiencing financial independence for the first time. This initiative has improved menstrual hygiene, reduced health risks, and uplifted the socio-economic status of women of Khardi.
