ECL Marks International Women’s Day with Health, Safety and Empowerment Initiatives Across Coalfields
Sanctoria, March 10, 2026: ECL marked the International Women’s Day 2026 with a series of initiatives focused on health awareness, digital safety, education and community engagement across its operational areas.
The main programme, organised by the Women in Public Sector (WIPS) ECL on March 9, centred on the theme “Give to Gain” and the global campaign “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls.” The event was attended by CMD, ECL Shri Satish Jha, Director (Technical/OP) Shri Niladri Roy, Director (HR) Shri Gunjan Kumar Sinha along with President, Shatakshi Mahila Mandal Smt. Kiran Jha, Vice-President, Shatakshi Mahila Mandal Smt. Sanchita Roy and Vice-President, Shatakshi Mahila Mandal Smt. Anubha Sinha and members of their families, among others.
A motivational session highlighted leadership, confidence and resilience among women, while an awareness programme on cybersecurity was conducted by the Cyber Crime Cell, Kolkata, in association with the Subhas Chandra Bose Scholarship Foundation, underlining the growing importance of digital safety.
Cultural performances by women employees from different Areas of ECL were part of the celebration, reflecting India’s diverse cultural traditions and the company’s workforce's participation.
In the lead-up to the celebrations, WIPS ECL organised a two-day special health camp for women employees at Sanctoria Hospital on March 5th and 6th, offering preventive health screening including hemoglobin, blood sugar, calcium, thyroid profile (TSH), vitamin D tests, bone density examination, general health consultation and gynaecological screening including Pap smear.
Ahead of the occasion, awareness programmes were conducted at Sodepur Colliery High School and Parbelia Colliery High School, covering adolescent health, menstrual hygiene, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), gynaecological cancers and cyber safety. Approximately 150 students participated in the sessions.
At Pandaveswar Area, ECL’s Medical Department organised a cancer awareness programme on March 7 for women employees and nearby residents in association with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Cancer Institute, Kolkata, and The Mission Hospital, Durgapur. The programme included sessions on breast and cervical cancer awareness, early detection and prevention, along with a health screening camp offering blood glucose testing, anaemia screening, blood pressure testing and oxygen saturation testing.
International Women’s Day was also observed at the Satgram-Sripur Branch on March 8 at Nazrul Manch, Kopex Colony, where members of Shatakshi Mahila Mandal, Dishergarh, participated in activities including a Rangoli competition themed “Give to Gain”. The programme highlighted the year’s focus on guidance, financial awareness, and support systems for women.
The programme was successfully coordinated by Manager (E&T) ECL, WIPS Coordinator at ECL- Smt. Shrabani Choudhury. The initiatives across ECL’s areas brought together employees, medical professionals, students and community members, underscoring the company’s efforts to promote health awareness, education and empowerment among women.
