New Delhi: Under the visionary leadership of Narendra Modi, India is steadily progressing towards a future-ready coal gasification ecosystem aimed at enhancing efficient resource utilization, energy security, and next-generation industrial infrastructure.

The coal gasification programme is emerging as a key national initiative focused on cleaner and value-added utilization of domestic coal resources, including deep-seated and difficult-to-exploit coal deposits. The initiative is expected to play a significant role in reducing import dependence, improving energy efficiency, and promoting sustainable industrial development.

Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL), a premier mineral exploration public sector enterprise, is contributing to this strategic national mission by providing scientific exploration services and advanced geological support to the coal sector.

Working closely with Coal India Limited and Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL), MECL is supporting the development of coal gasification projects through reliable geological intelligence, drilling assistance, and comprehensive resource assessment.

The organization’s expertise in exploration and subsurface investigations is helping identify and evaluate coal reserves that can be utilized for cleaner and more efficient industrial applications. This includes support for accessing deep-seated coal deposits that are traditionally difficult to mine using conventional methods.

Coal gasification technology converts coal into synthesis gas (syngas), which can be used for producing chemicals, fertilizers, hydrogen, and cleaner fuels. The technology is increasingly viewed as a critical component of India’s long-term energy transition strategy.
