NHPC Director reviews progress of 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydro Project

New Delhi:  Shri Suprakash Adhikari, Director (Technical) of NHPC Limited, visited the 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project from January 7 to 8, 2026 to review the progress of construction and assess the preparedness for commissioning of upcoming units.

During the visit, Shri Rajendra Prasad, Executive Director and Head of Project, briefed the Director on the current status of ongoing activities and readiness for commissioning of Unit 1, Unit 3 and Unit 4, along with progress on the remaining works of Units 5 to 8.

Shri Adhikari conducted detailed inspections of the dam site, diversion tunnel inlet and outlet areas, and the powerhouse complex. He subsequently chaired a comprehensive review meeting with senior officers and representatives of the project execution agencies to evaluate the status of erection, testing, and commissioning of the remaining units.

Emphasizing the importance of timely delivery, he directed all concerned agencies to complete the pending activities expeditiously as per the approved schedule to ensure early commissioning of the project.

He also appreciated the dedication and hard work of the project team and urged them to maintain the current momentum to achieve project milestones.

As part of NHPC’s commitment to environmental sustainability, Shri Adhikari planted a sapling within the project campus, reinforcing the organization’s focus on green development and environmental stewardship.

The Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, located on the Subansiri River in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, is one of India’s largest hydroelectric projects and is expected to significantly strengthen power availability in the North Eastern region.
