ONGC Tripura Achieves Major Breakthrough

New Delhi:  ONGC’s Tripura Asset has marked a major technological and environmental milestone by successfully operating New Generation drilling rigs using CNG cascades, replacing up to 70% of conventional diesel with domestically produced natural gas — without affecting engine performance or operational reliability.

This first-of-its-kind initiative in the upstream oil and gas sector has delivered a substantial reduction in carbon emissions, significantly lowered operating costs, and reduced dependence on imported fossil fuels, directly supporting India’s goal of energy self-reliance.

The project has been implemented in close collaboration with Tripura Natural Gas Corporation Limited (TNGCL) and demonstrates how India’s own natural gas resources can be effectively leveraged for cleaner, greener and more resilient energy operations.

ONGC officials said the initiative reflects the company’s strong commitment to sustainability, innovation and climate responsibility, while ensuring uninterrupted and efficient field operations.
