PM Narendra Modi Visits Sarojini Nagar GPRA Redevelopment Site Executed by NBCC
New Delhi, March 8, 2026: Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, visited the Type-V Government Residential Quarters (GPRA) redevelopment site at Sarojini Nagar on Sunday to review progress of the large-scale housing redevelopment project being executed by NBCC (India) Limited.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, and Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
NBCC Leading Major Government Housing Redevelopment
NBCC is responsible for executing the redevelopment of the Sarojini Nagar GPRA project, which is part of a broader initiative to modernize government residential infrastructure in the national capital.
The redevelopment of Sarojini Nagar and Netaji Nagar forms part of the seven GPRA redevelopment projects aimed at transforming aging government housing colonies into modern residential complexes with upgraded infrastructure and amenities.
Nauroji Nagar Redevelopment Completed
As part of the same initiative, NBCC successfully completed the redevelopment of Nauroji Nagar, which has now been developed into the World Trade Center Nauroji Nagar. The project was completed last year and is considered a major milestone in the government’s urban redevelopment efforts.
PM Interacts with Women Workers at Project Site
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi interacted with women shramjeevis (construction workers) engaged in the Sarojini Nagar GPRA project. He acknowledged their contribution to the nation-building process and appreciated their role in the successful execution of large infrastructure projects.
The Prime Minister was also briefed by women employees of NBCC, who provided updates on the progress of the redevelopment projects and highlighted key aspects of construction and planning.
Keys Handed Over to Women Allottees
As part of the event, the Prime Minister handed over allotment keys to women beneficiaries, marking an important step toward empowering women and ensuring secure housing for government employees.
Officials said the redevelopment projects are designed to deliver modern residential facilities, improved urban infrastructure, and sustainable living spaces for government personnel in the national capital.
Boost to Urban Infrastructure in Delhi
The GPRA redevelopment initiative is part of the government’s broader vision to upgrade government housing and optimize land use in prime areas of Delhi, while also integrating commercial, residential, and public infrastructure within modern urban complexes.
The Sarojini Nagar redevelopment is expected to significantly enhance housing capacity and quality of living for central government employees, while also contributing to Delhi’s urban modernization.
