NHPC HE Project Update: Power Minister inaugurates Suspension Bridge at Teesta-V Power Station
During the construction of Teesta Stage -V HE Project, NHPC had constructed 90 mtr long 30 R suspension bridge in year 2003 which had been washed away in Oct 2023 due to outburst of Lhonak Lake of North Sikkim.
New Delhi: On April 27, 2025, in the presence of Shri Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary (Power), Government of India, and Shri R.K. Chaudhary, CMD, NHPC, the Hon. Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Development, Shri Manohar Lal, officially opened the 120-meter-long 30 R motorable suspension bridge at Teesta-V Power Station via virtual mode.
Shri N.B. Dahal, Hon’ble Minister of Road and Bridge. Govt. of Sikkim was physically present in the site. The bridge will not only benefit the residents of Teesta-V & Teesta VI HE Project and villagers of surrounding areas, but will also speed up the restoration activities of Teesta-V and construction activities of Teesta-VI HEP. Executive Director, NHPC RO Siliguri, HOP Teesta-VI and HoP Teesta-V alongwith NHPC employees, students of Kendriya Vidyalaya Singtam and local residents were also present.
The Hon’ble Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Development and Hon’ble Minister of Road and Bridge, Govt. of Sikkim congratulated NHPC and appreciated the dedication & commitment of NHPC officers. This bridge has been constructed by NHPC through M/s Jaiprakash Limited.
