Shipping Corporation of India Clarifies Rumours on Container Shipping Venture, Stock Rises 5%
New Delhi: Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has issued a clarification to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) regarding market speculation on the launch of a container shipping line by state-run companies.
The clarification follows a news report published on January 25, 2026, and a subsequent rise of over 5% in SCI’s share price on January 27. In its response, SCI stated that its Board had earlier given in-principle approval in July 2024 to explore potential business collaborations with central enterprises, state entities, and private players.
The company emphasized that no final decision or concrete development has been made regarding the reported project. SCI added that any material progress will be disclosed to the stock exchanges in accordance with SEBI regulations. It also confirmed that there are no regulatory or legal proceedings related to the matter.
