Building Resilience Through MSME Partnerships: BEML at NDIC

New Delhi: At the National Defence Industries Conclave – Advanced Manufacturing Technologies (NDIC–AMTS) 2026, Shri Shantanu Roy, representing BEML, underscored the strategic importance of MSME partnerships in building resilient and future-ready manufacturing ecosystems. Speaking at a high-level panel on Main Battle Tanks, Armoured Platforms, Military Logistics, and Special Vehicles, Shri Roy emphasized:

“In manufacturing, while scale drives efficiency, it is the depth provided by our MSME partners that builds resilience and positions BEML as a globally competitive enterprise.”

He highlighted that while large engineering platforms often showcase scale and technological capability, their true strength lies in the ecosystem supporting them. At the heart of this ecosystem are MSMEs, which drive design, precision manufacturing, fabrication, and lifecycle support across multiple sectors.

From High Mobility Vehicles capable of operating in extreme terrains to metro systems serving millions and heavy mining equipment in remote geographies, BEML’s platforms rely heavily on a strong MSME network. Currently, BEML works with 1,066 MSMEs among 1,785 approved vendors, achieving over 95% indigenisation in High Mobility Vehicles, 90% in Mining & Construction, and 90% in Rail & 65% in Metro systems.

MSME contributions have also significantly increased in procurement, doubling from approximately ₹700 crore to ₹1,600 crore over the past three years, now making up nearly 40% of BEML’s domestic procurement.

Shri Roy noted the pivotal role MSMEs have played in advancing indigenous defence manufacturing, supplying critical components such as driver cabins, brake systems, engine parts, and suspension systems, showcasing agility, innovation, and reliability.
