RBI imposes Rs 4.85 lakh penalty on PNB for currency chest violation
Punjab National Bank on Tuesday informed the stock exchanges that the Reserve Bank of India has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 4.85 lakh on the bank.
In a regulatory filing PNB said the penalty was imposed on January 6 2026 following the detection of shortage of notes at one of its currency chests. The action was taken under the provisions of Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements Regulations 2015.
The bank clarified that the violation pertains only to the shortage of notes at the currency chest and the impact of the penalty is limited to the amount imposed. PNB stated that there is no material impact on its financial position or operations beyond the payment of the penalty.
The disclosure was made to both the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange.
