Haridwar, March 2026: The Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel, Shri H. D. Kumaraswamy, dedicated a newly constructed 5 MW solar power plant at the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) Haridwar Township during his visit to the unit, reinforcing the government’s commitment to clean energy and sustainable industrial operations.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Shri K. Sadashiv Murthy, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of BHEL, and Shri Ranjan Kumar, Executive Director of the BHEL Haridwar Unit, along with senior officials and employees.

Solar Plant to Support Green Energy Goals

The newly commissioned 5 MW solar power facility at BHEL’s Haridwar township is expected to contribute significantly to the organization’s renewable energy initiatives and reduce its carbon footprint. The project aligns with India’s broader strategy to promote sustainable power generation and energy efficiency in industrial establishments.

Multiple Strategic Projects Unveiled

During the visit, the Union Minister also inaugurated and flagged off several key manufacturing achievements at the Haridwar unit.

Among the highlights was the flagging off of the 53rd Super Rapid Gun Mount (SRGM) naval gun manufactured at BHEL Haridwar. The SRGM system is an advanced naval artillery solution supplied to the Indian Navy and represents BHEL’s growing role in the defence manufacturing sector under the government’s “Make in India” initiative.

The Minister also inaugurated a 30-ton electric arc furnace at BHEL Haridwar’s Central Foundry Forge Plant (CFFP) unit. The new facility is expected to enhance BHEL’s production capabilities for high-quality forged and cast components required in power, defence, and heavy engineering sectors.

Equipment for Adani Power’s Raipur Project

In another significant development, Shri Kumaraswamy flagged off an 800 MW rating turbine-generator (TG) stator manufactured by BHEL for Unit-1 of the Raipur project of Adani Power Limited. The equipment will play a crucial role in supporting large-scale thermal power generation capacity.

Minister Interacts with Employees

During the visit, the Union Minister also interacted with a cross-section of employees, appreciating their contribution to strengthening India’s manufacturing capabilities and technological excellence in the heavy engineering sector.

The visit highlighted the government’s focus on strengthening public sector manufacturing units like BHEL, promoting renewable energy adoption, and supporting indigenous defence and power equipment production.
