SBI Board Reshuffle: Government Appoints Sanjay Lohiya as Director
Mumbai, June 11, 2026: The Central Government has nominated Sanjay Lohiya, Secretary, Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, as Director on the Central Board of Directors of State Bank of India (SBI) with immediate effect.
The appointment was made under Section 19(e) of the State Bank of India Act, 1955, according to a notification issued by the Department of Financial Services on June 11, 2026.
He succeeds Nagaraju Maddirala on the country's largest lender's board.
Senior IAS Officer with Vast Administrative Experience
Sanjay Lohiya is a 1994-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre. He joined the Department of Financial Services as Special Secretary and assumed charge as Secretary, DFS, from June 1, 2026.
Before taking over at DFS, he served as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Mines.
Held Key Positions in Government
Over his administrative career, Lohiya has held several important positions, including:

Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Assam.

Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture.

Director in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

Additional Secretary, Ministry of Mines.
He is a graduate of St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi.
Appointment Effective Immediately
According to the government notification, Sanjay Lohiya will serve on SBI's Central Board with immediate effect and until further orders.
