Major Changes in Senior Government Positions as Centre Releases Fresh Orders
New Delhi January 12, 2026: The Government of India on Monday issued two important administrative orders involving senior officers of the Central Services.
Gaurav Bharill Gets Director-Level Re-designation
The Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) approved the re-designation of the post of Private Secretary to the Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Shri Durgadas Uikey, upgrading it from Deputy Secretary level to Director level.
The post is presently held by Shri Gaurav Bharill, IRS (IT:2012).
The re-designation is personal to the officer and will remain effective:

From the date he assumes charge of the upgraded post

Till 28 October 2027,

Or on co-terminus basis with the Minister,
-
Or until he ceases to function as Private Secretary,
-
Whichever occurs earliest.
Shri Bharill has been on central deputation since October 29, 2020.
Coal Ministry Joint Secretary Repatriated
In another order, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the proposal of the Ministry of Coal for the premature repatriation of Shri Lakhpat Singh Choudhary, IRSS (1997), Joint Secretary, back to his parent cadre on personal grounds.
The decision was conveyed by the Secretariat of the ACC on January 12, 2026.
