Hinduja Foundation empowers young learners with financial literacy through Moneywise Explorers initiative

Mumbai, September 02, 2025: The Hinduja Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the 110-year-old Hinduja Group, has launched a pioneering financial literacy program called 'Moneywise Explorers' at a government school in Mumbai. This initiative aims to provide underprivileged children with essential money management skills and practical banking experience.

The pilot program, a partnership with Learning Links Foundation, reached around 140 students from Grades 6 to 8. Over two weeks, the children learned about budgeting, smart spending, and online safety through interactive methods like storytelling, role-playing, art and craft, and discussions. A significant feature of the program was that every student was able to open a zero-balance savings account, giving them direct experience with banking and helping them build early financial confidence.

"Less than 27% of Indian adults meet the minimum level of financial literacy set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), a figure markedly lower than the global average of 42%," said Ninya Hinduja, a Member of the Promoter Family, Hinduja Foundation. She highlighted that adult financial habits are often shaped by their early years. "The Moneywise Explorers program seeks to address this gap by equipping children from underserved communities with the skills necessary to build future economic independence," Hinduja added. The foundation plans to work with multiple government schools and education authorities to make financial literacy a permanent part of school curricula across the country.

Agnes Nathan, Principal Partner, Learning Links Foundation, noted that this partnership shows that when children are given the right tools, they not only do well academically but also develop crucial life skills. She emphasized the importance of financial literacy in empowering underserved communities.

'Moneywise Explorers' is part of the Hinduja Foundation’s Road-To-School initiative and aligns with the National Strategy for Financial Education (2020–2025) and National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The curriculum, developed by Learning Links Foundation in collaboration with Ninya Hinduja, uses NCERT and NCFE resources to simplify complex financial concepts. The foundation hopes to expand this program to more schools, creating a financially literate generation through collaborations with leading institutions.
