CF Industries, Trafigura and TFG Marine Sign MoU to Promote Low-Carbon Ammonia as Marine Fuel
Singapore | January 15, 2026, CF Industries Holdings Inc., Trafigura and TFG Marine have entered into a strategic partnership to accelerate the use of low-carbon ammonia as a marine fuel, marking an important step in the global shipping industry’s shift toward cleaner energy solutions.
The three companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding to create a collaborative framework focused on making low-carbon ammonia a commercially viable fuel for international shipping. The initiative builds on earlier cooperation between CF Industries and Trafigura in the transport of low-carbon ammonia.
Focus on Supply Chain Development
Under the agreement, the partners will work together on market development, stakeholder engagement and the creation of ammonia bunkering infrastructure. The first phase of the collaboration will concentrate on the U.S. Gulf Coast and Northwest Europe, two major global shipping hubs.
CF Industries will contribute its production and export capabilities for low-carbon ammonia from its Donaldsonville, Louisiana complex. Trafigura will apply its global commodity trading and logistics expertise, while TFG Marine will provide marine fuel supply, bunkering operations and last-mile delivery solutions.
TFG Marine, a joint venture of Trafigura, Frontline and Golden Ocean Group, will also coordinate ammonia demand from vessel operators and facilitate transport to future bunkering hubs worldwide.
Supporting Shipping Decarbonisation
Industry leaders said the collaboration brings together the full value chain required to enable large-scale adoption of low-carbon ammonia, from production and transportation to marine fueling operations. The partnership aims to support shipowners as they prepare for tightening emissions regulations and the transition to cleaner propulsion technologies.
The initiative positions low-carbon ammonia as a key candidate in the next generation of sustainable marine fuels.
