U.S. Secretary Rubio Congratulates India on Nuclear Energy Bill, Discusses Trade and Indo-Pacific
New Delhi: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke today with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, exchanging New Year greetings and reaffirming the strong bilateral partnership between the two countries.
During the conversation, Secretary Rubio congratulated India on enacting the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTE) bill. He expressed interest in leveraging the legislation to enhance U.S.-India civil nuclear cooperation, create opportunities for American companies, strengthen shared energy security objectives, and secure critical mineral supply chains.
The leaders also discussed ongoing negotiations on a bilateral trade agreement, emphasizing their commitment to expanding economic cooperation. They exchanged views on regional developments, underscoring the United States’ and India’s shared commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.
This dialogue reflects the continued strengthening of U.S.-India strategic and economic ties, particularly in energy, trade, and regional security, amid evolving global challenges.
