DVC Signs MoU with Odisha Govt to Fast-Track Mandakini-B Coal Mine Development
Kolkata, January 19, 2026: In a significant step towards energy security, the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited (IPICOL), Government of Odisha, on the sidelines of the Odisha Investment Meet held on January 16-17, 2026.
The MoU was signed in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Mohan Charan Majhi. The agreement aims to fast-track the development of the Mandakini-B Coal Mine in the Angul district of Odisha.
Project Significance
DVC had secured the mining rights for the Mandakini-B coal block in the 13th tranche of coal mine auctions held by the central government. This strategic move is designed to:

Support self-reliance in power generation by securing a dedicated coal source.

Contribute to regional economic development in Odisha through mining operations and associated infrastructure.

The MoU with IPICOL will facilitate necessary clearances, approvals, and coordination with state agencies to expedite the operationalization of the coal mine, ensuring a smoother path from allocation to production.
