Singrauli, June 2: State-owned coal producer Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Singrauli district administration to support the construction of new ponds under the Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan, aimed at water conservation and rejuvenation of local water resources.

As part of the agreement, NCL will provide ₹25 lakh in financial assistance through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme for the construction of three new ponds in Sulkhan Khurd, Naikhawa and Korsar villages of Chitrangi block in Singrauli district.

The initiative is expected to strengthen water conservation efforts, improve groundwater recharge and enhance water availability for agricultural activities in the region. The project will help local farmers secure adequate irrigation water while also improving access to clean drinking water for rural communities.

According to NCL, the development of these water bodies is expected to contribute to sustainable water management and reduce the incidence of water-borne diseases in nearby villages.

The MoU was signed by Rajeev Ranjan, General Manager (CSR), NCL, on behalf of the company, and Jagdish Gome, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Panchayat, Singrauli, representing the district administration.
