NMDC and IIT Hyderabad Sign MoU for Green Steel
New Delhi: NMDC R&D Centre and IIT Hyderabad have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on advanced research in green steel, ironmaking technologies and critical minerals.
The partnership aims to strengthen innovation-driven solutions that support sustainable steel production and enhance India’s resource resilience. The collaboration will focus on developing next-generation ironmaking processes, low-carbon technologies and efficient utilization of mineral resources in alignment with global sustainability goals.
Under the MoU, both institutions will work jointly on research projects, technology development, pilot studies and knowledge exchange in areas such as:

The initiative is expected to accelerate industry-academia collaboration, enabling faster translation of research into scalable industrial applications.
By combining NMDC’s domain expertise in mining and mineral processing with IIT Hyderabad’s research capabilities and technological innovation, the partnership seeks to power India’s journey toward sustainable industrial growth and self-reliance in critical mineral resources.
