RINL Pays Tribute to Former CMD J Mehra

Visakhapatnam, 25.02.2026: Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, paid rich tributes to its former Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Shri J Mehra, who passed away on 24th February 2026 in Delhi. CMD, Directors, CVO, and senior officers expressed deep sorrow and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

Shri Mehra joined RINL in January 1992 as Director (Operations) and later became CMD on 1st June 1993. During his tenure, he successfully commissioned the second phase of the plant and stabilized production in key units such as Coke Ovens, Sinter Plant and Blast Furnace, laying strong systems and procedures that strengthened the organization during critical years. His leadership played a significant role in steering RINL towards operational stability and growth.

Born on 3rd March 1939 at Lahore, Shri Mehra was a Chemical Engineering graduate who began his career in 1962 at Rourkela Steel Plant under Steel Authority of India Limited. He later served in senior leadership roles, including Executive Director (Works) at Durgapur Steel Plant. He received the Jawahar Award and the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Award for his outstanding contributions.

In 2022, he was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indian Steel Association, presented in recognition of his more than 50 years of service to the Indian steel industry.

RINL remembered him as a visionary leader whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.
