New Delhi, 03 February 2026: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a premier Government of India undertaking, today announced the appointment of Shri Asit Gopal as a Part-time Official (Government Nominee) Director on its Board. The appointment is effective from 03 February 2026.
This appointment is based on a communication received from the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India, dated 02 February 2026, and has received the approval of the BHEL Board.
About Shri Asit Gopal:
Shri Asit Gopal is a senior Indian government officer with over three decades of diverse experience in public administration. He is an alumnus of IIT Bombay (B.Tech, Civil Engineering) and also holds postgraduate qualifications in Wildlife Management, Public Policy & Management, and an MBA.
His career spans significant roles across various ministries and departments. He has served in the Forest Department of Madhya Pradesh and has held key positions including:

Additional Secretary (Finance)

Director in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the Central Vigilance Commission

Mission Director of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Madhya Pradesh)

Chairman & Managing Director of the National Scheduled Tribe Finance and Development Corporation

Currently, Shri Asit Gopal is serving as the Special Secretary & Financial Adviser (SS&FA) in the Ministry of Textiles. He also holds additional charge as SS&FA in the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Ministry of Heavy Industry, and Ministry of MSME, Government of India.
Regulatory Compliance:
In line with SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, the company has informed that Shri Asit Gopal has furnished a declaration confirming he is not debarred from holding the office of Director by any regulatory authority.
