MIDHANI marked its Golden Jubilee Celebration

Mishra Dhatu Nigam Ltd., (MIDHANI) a Govt. of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, proudly celebrated its 50th Anniversary of establishment on 27.11.2023, marking a significant milestone in the journey of Making India Atmanirbhar Bharat. The day was celebrated by unveiling the statue of Dr. RV Tamhankar the founder chairman of MIDHANI and the inauguration of the new pickling facility for the Wide Plate by Dr. Sanjay Kumar Jha, CMD, MIDHANI, Shri N. Gowri Sankara Rao, D(F), Shri T. Muthukumar, D (P&M) and Dr. Upender Vennam, CVO along with Sr. officials and employees of MIDHANI.  
In this context, while addressing the gathering of MIDHANI employees Dr. Sanjay Kumar Jha, CMD, MIDHANI has said that MIDHANI has scripted an illustrious history in the area of Alloy.  It has come into existence due to the invaluable contributions of distinguished scientists and engineers. Dr. R.V. Tamhankar, a renowned Metallurgist and the founding Director of the Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), presented a visionary proposal to the Government of India.

His proposal outlined the establishment of a manufacturing plant specializing in Super Alloys and Special Metals within India. This strategic initiative aimed to fulfill the nation's critical and essential requirements. Dr. Brahm Prakash, yet another distinguished scientist renowned in the field of atomic energy, played a pivotal role in the establishment of MIDHANI. He further said that MIDHANI will perform par excellence in the future and definitely achieve the given targets by the Ministry to get schedule A status.

In the event, Shri N. Gowri Sankara Rao, D (F) said that  MIDHANI is a story of resilience, determination and dreams of people who wanted a self-reliant India. We pay homage to the immeasurable contributions of both Dr. R.V. Tamhankar and Dr. Brahm Prakash. Their dedication and service laid the groundwork for us to commemorate 50 years marked by innovation, excellence, and transformative achievements. Shri T. Muthukumar, D (P&M) expressed that through persistent integration and technological advancements, MIDHANI emerged as a leader in advanced metallurgical production for supplying critical alloys and products of national security and strategic importance.

MIDHANI has many of grades of Special steel alloys, Superalloys and Titanium alloys which have applications in strategic sectors such as Defence, Space and Energy. MIDHANI is also marking its presence in armouring solutions and railways.  Dr. Upendra Vennam, CVO, said that 1970 was the time when India was reflecting on the conflicts it had with China in 1962 and Pakistan in 1965. There was an urgent need for a strong defense modernization strategy rooted in indigenous resources and self-reliance. MIDHANI has established itself as a manufacturer of metals required for strategic projects. He expressed hope that this company will continue on the path of progress and definitely celebrate its centenary year in futrue.

During the day-long event MIDHANI’s recognized union President Shri Narayan Rao, MEA President Shri M. Ramlu Naik and MOA Shri SK Dwivedi also expressed their view on MIDHANI’s journey of 50 Years. All three presidents emphasized that MIDHANI is geared up to meet all the future challenges in order to meet the special material requirements of our Nation. 

The Formation Day of MIDHANI has been celebrated with high notes by the employees with a performance of various cultural activities along with BPDAV School Students, releasing of Coffee Table Book and display of Golden Jubilee Postal Stamp. The program was started with the welcome speech by Shri Supartha Sen, GM (Coord & CP) and concluded with a vote of Thanks by Shri Anand Kumar, General Manager (PII&IV).
