Shri Satyabrata Mukherjee Recommended as CMD of Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited by PESB
New Delhi, March 16, 2026: The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Satyabrata Mukherjee, currently serving as Director (Operations) at Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited, for the post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL).
The recommendation was made during PESB Meeting No. 21/2026, which took place at 08:45 AM on Monday, March 16, 2026, following interviews conducted for the top leadership position at the defence public sector enterprise.

Candidates Interviewed for AVNL CMD Position
According to the official meeting minutes, two senior executives were interviewed by PESB for the prestigious Schedule ‘A’ PSU leadership role.
The candidates who appeared for the selection were:

Satyabrata Mukherjee – Director (Operations), Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited

S. Subbaraj – Executive Director, Alloy Steels Plant, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Durgapur
After evaluating the candidates’ experience and leadership credentials, PESB recommended Satyabrata Mukherjee for the CMD post.
Strategic Role of AVNL in Defence Manufacturing
Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL) is a key defence public sector undertaking responsible for manufacturing and maintaining armoured vehicles, battle tanks, and other military mobility platforms for the Indian Armed Forces.
The company was formed after the restructuring of the Ordnance Factory Board, part of the Government of India’s defence sector reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency and strengthening domestic defence manufacturing.
Final Appointment Subject to ACC Approval
Following PESB’s recommendation, the proposal will now be forwarded to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for final approval. Once cleared, the official appointment of the new CMD will be formally announced.
The appointment comes at a crucial time as AVNL continues to expand its role in strengthening India’s defence self-reliance and indigenous defence production ecosystem.
