NLCIL Joins the nation in celebrating the 56th Engineers’ Day

New Delhi: The 56th Engineers’ Day was celebrated in NLC India at Neyveli on 15.09.2023 in honour of Bharat Ratna awardee and Internationally acclaimed Engineer Sir. Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. Born in Karnataka on September 15th 1861, Sri Visvesvaraya was honoured with the prestigious Bharat Ratna Award in 1955 for his contribution in the field of Engineering. His techniques in dam construction was notable in retaining maximum water and the automatically operating shutters, which were noteworthy at Mysore (Krishnaraja Sagar Dam), Gwalior and even at Africa. The British regime also utilized his engineering skills.

The Neyveli Local Centre of Institution of Engineers (India) commemorated the 162nd birth anniversary of the engineering legend Dr Visvesvaraya, at the 56th Engineers Day celebrations at Neyveli. Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, NLCIL, the chief guest of the function, garlanded and paid floral tributes to the statue of Sir M. Visvesvaraya at the premises of the Institution of Engineers building, Neyveli.

In his address on the theme of the celebration, “Engineering a Resilient Future: Building Stronger, Smarter, Safer”, Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli spoke on the need to integrate technological advancements with values by inculcating the spirit of ethics in all our works. He recalled the contributions of Sri Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, the renowned Engineer of India, to modern technology. Visvesvaraya was not only a technocrat but also a man with values and morals, who always stood for ethical character.

Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli said that India had announced its target to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2070. He said that India had the most number of young persons in the world. Also, India was marching towards a ten trillion economy by 2047 which could be possible only by wholehearted commitment of Engineers. The world was producing 1.5 Million Engineers every year and 25% of them were from India. Engineers are also contributing in other fields also, like Software field, where 80% of software professionals are engineers.

Shri Prasanna Kumar also said that NLCIL, even from its inception, had always focussed on sustainability by taking care of the environment. He stressed on the fact that NLCIL was giving more importance to the renewable sector. NLCIL was acting in accordance with the “Panchamrit” outlined by the Prime Minister in the CoP 26 conference for combating climate change. NLCIL would always be at the forefront to protect the environment in all possible ways as was seen in adopting sustainability as one of its core values. Shri Prasanna Kumar called upon the Institution of Engineers chapter of NLCIL to collaborate with IIT for mutual benefit and assured support to all their future endeavours.

Shri. Mohan Reddy, Director (P&P), in his address, said that NLCIL had faced many challenges including the COVID pandemic and overcame them successfully. Similarly, NLCIL would overcome all challenges to meet the sustainability targets by the year 2030.

Shri Samir Swarup, Director (HR) and Shri M. Venkatachalam, Director (Power) also participated in the event.

Earlier, Dr. M. Senthil Kumar, General Manager, Corporate Environment Cell and Secretary, Institution of Engineers (India), Neyveli, welcomed the gathering while Shri Anbalagan proposed the Vote of Thanks.
