Oil India controls fluid flow from shut-in well NHK-67
The well NHK-67 was shut in in 2016, but on October 19, 2023, miscreants vandalized the well, causing the uncontrolled flow of fluid. OIL immediately mobilized its team to control the situation and cap the well.
New Delhi: Oil India Limited (OIL), a leading oil and gas exploration and production company in India, successfully capped the uncontrolled flow of fluid (mainly water) from the shut-in well NHK-67 near Duliajan in Assam at around 12:44 pm on October 23, 2023. The capping operation was carried out by the in-house Crisis Management Team (CMT) and the internal Task Force of OIL, with the support of the local community, district administration, State Government of Assam, and the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India.

However, OIL's team was able to successfully cap the well within 60 hours of the incident.
After the capping operation, the well was killed with pressure reading zero, indicating that the uncontrolled flow of fluid had been completely stopped. OIL is now in the process of restoring the well and ensuring the safety of the local community.
