Infosys Foundation Inaugurates Cardio-Obstetric Care Units at RGGGH Chennai
Mumbai: Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Infosys, has inaugurated two specialised facilities to strengthen cardio-obstetric care for pregnant women at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) in Chennai.
The new facilities include:

An exclusive cardio-obstetric outpatient unit

A state-of-the-art cardio-obstetric catheterization laboratory
Both units have been set up at the Institute of Cardiology of RGGGH, which is managed by Madras Medical College (MMC).
Objective of the Initiative
The facilities aim to improve care for pregnant women with heart-related complications and help reduce maternal mortality caused by cardiac diseases. The inauguration took place on 9 September 2026 in the presence of Dr. K. G. Arunraj, Hon’ble Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu, along with senior government and hospital officials and Infosys representatives.
Broader Collaboration
This is part of an ongoing partnership between Infosys Foundation and Madras Medical College. In August 2024, the Foundation had inaugurated a high-risk antenatal ward and critical care facilities at the Institute of Social Obstetrics to address cardiac complications in pregnancy.
Infosys Foundation has committed a total grant of over ₹31 crore to strengthen MMC’s cardio-obstetric care infrastructure. The support also extends to:

The National Pregnancy and Cardiac Diseases (NPAC) study — the largest global single-centre study on pregnancy-related heart disease

The Tamil Nadu Pregnancy and Heart Disease Registry (TNPHDR) — the largest registry of its kind worldwide
These research programmes focus on developing care protocols for heart disease in pregnancy and improving pregnancy outcomes.

Sunil Kumar Dhareshwar, Trustee, Infosys Foundation, said the initiative is aimed at enhancing maternal care and addressing the rising concern of cardiac complications during pregnancy, while also contributing to research that can benefit women across the country.
