New Delhi: JSW Energy Limited has entered into a major long-term power supply arrangement with West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) for a 1,600 MW thermal power project to be developed at Salboni, West Bengal.

The Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) has been signed through JSW Thermal Energy Two Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Energy. The project will comprise two units of 800 MW each and is planned as a greenfield super/ultra-super critical thermal power plant, with commissioning targeted within six years.

This project has been awarded to JSW Energy through a competitive bidding process conducted by WBSEDCL. The plant will operate using domestic coal linkage allocated to the state under the SHAKTI Policy (B iv), ensuring fuel security and stable operations.

The newly signed agreement marks JSW Energy’s second 1,600 MW PPA with WBSEDCL, following a similar agreement executed in March 2025. With this development, JSW Energy’s total planned capacity at Salboni will increase to 3,200 MW, making it the company’s largest power generation asset at a single location.

Commenting on the development, Sharad Mahendra, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Energy, said that the expanded Salboni project will play a key role in strengthening India’s energy security while enabling operational efficiencies due to shared infrastructure and proximity to coal sources.

Currently, JSW Energy operates 5,658 MW of thermal capacity. With the Salboni project under construction and an option to add 1,800 MW at KSK Mahanadi, the company’s total thermal capacity is expected to reach 10,658 MW, entirely based on domestic coal.

Overall, JSW Energy has 32.1 GW of locked-in generation capacity, including operational, under-construction, and pipeline projects across thermal, renewable, and hydro segments. The company is also expanding its presence in energy storage, with 29.4 GWh of secured capacity across pumped storage and battery systems.

JSW Energy has set long-term goals of achieving 30 GW of generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage by 2030, while targeting carbon neutrality by 2050.
