EIL Bags Over $350 Million Contract to Expand Africa's Dangote Refinery into World's Largest

New Delhi, January 17, 2026: In a landmark deal for India’s engineering consultancy sector, Engineers India Limited (EIL) has been awarded a contract worth over USD 350 million (₹3,174.83 crore) by Nigeria’s Dangote Group.

The contract is for providing Project Management Consultancy (PMC) and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) services for the major expansion of the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex in Lagos, Nigeria.

Project Scale: Doubling the World's Largest Single-Train Refinery

EIL will spearhead the expansion of the existing facility, which is already Africa’s biggest refinery and the world’s largest single-train unit with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (bpd). The ambitious expansion aims to:

  • Double the refining capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day.

  • Expand Polypropylene production from 830 kTPA to 2.4 MMTPA.

  • Install a new 750 kTPA Oleflex Unit for propylene feed.

Upon completion, the expanded complex will be the largest petroleum refinery in the world at a single location, producing higher-grade Euro-VI fuels.

A Trusted Partnership

This contract reaffirms a successful partnership. EIL had previously served as the PMC and EPCM consultant for the initial phase of the Dangote Refinery, which was commissioned in 2024 and is considered a transformative asset for Africa's energy security.

"Believing in EIL’s Engineering and Project Management excellence, Dangote Group has once again joined hands with EIL in this endeavor," stated the press release from the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas PSU.

Strategic Significance

The expansion is central to Nigeria's goal of becoming a regional hub for refined products and petrochemicals, reducing dependence on fuel imports and strengthening Africa’s energy architecture.

For EIL, this mega-contract is a strong testament to its global engineering prowess and its ability to deliver projects of exceptional scale and complexity on the world stage.
