New Delhi: A major power plant in India's north-eastern region has celebrated its 21st anniversary with a flag-hoisting ceremony and a renewed commitment to sustainable operations.

The NTPC Bongaigaon thermal power station, located in Assam's Bodoland Territorial Region, marked its 21st Raising Day on Thursday.

Since beginning operations on 16 January 2006, the plant has supplied 3,527 million units of electricity to the grid and currently operates at 96.93% of its declared capacity, according to company figures.

In a statement, plant officials said the station now ranks fourth in safety performance across all NTPC facilities in India and has recorded its highest-ever ash utilisation rate since inception, in line with efforts to promote a circular economy.
