State-run power giant NTPC Ltd has announced the incorporation of its wholly-owned subsidiary, NTPC Parmanu Urja Nigam Ltd (NPUNL), to lead its nuclear energy initiatives.

In a regulatory filing, NTPC stated, "NTPC Parmanu Urja Nigam Limited has been incorporated on January 7, 2025, as a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited to undertake nuclear energy business." 

NPUNL has been established to plan, develop, and operate nuclear energy projects for electricity generation and related purposes. The subsidiary will focus on building, owning, and managing nuclear power stations, promoting research and development, and identifying suitable sites for nuclear facilities.

The incorporation follows approvals from the Ministry of Power, Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), and NITI Aayog. NTPC has subscribed to 50,000 equity shares of NPUNL at a face value of Rs 10 each, giving it 100% ownership of the subsidiary.

Shares of NTPC Ltd ended at Rs 325.45, lower by 0.9%.
