Mazagon Dock in Talks for ₹99,000 Crore Submarine Contract with Indian Navy
New Delhi, 5 March 2026: Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, one of India’s leading state-owned shipbuilding companies, is reportedly in advanced discussions with the Indian Navy for a major defence contract estimated at ₹99,000 crore.
The deal is expected to involve the construction of six advanced submarines in India, in collaboration with a German naval systems manufacturer. The submarines would be built at Mazagon Dock’s Mumbai facilities, reinforcing India’s domestic naval manufacturing capabilities.
While the contract has not yet been officially confirmed, reports suggest that the project could span several years, providing long-term revenue visibility for Mazagon Dock and strengthening the company’s strategic role in India’s naval defence ecosystem.
The potential order is part of India’s broader initiative to enhance indigenous defence production under the “Make in India” programme. Experts say that securing such a high-value contract would significantly boost the country’s undersea defence capabilities while supporting technological advancement in shipbuilding.
Mazagon Dock has a long history of supplying submarines and other naval vessels to the Indian Navy. A contract of this scale would mark one of the largest in the company’s history and underline its importance as a strategic defence partner.
