MECL CMD Meets GSI DG in Kolkata to Strengthen Mineral Exploration Collaboration
Kolkata, 9 March 2026: Shri I. D. Narayan, Chairman & Managing Director of Mineral Exploration & Consultancy Limited (MECL), met Shri Asit Saha, Director General of the Geological Survey of India (GSI), in Kolkata today. The meeting aimed at strengthening collaboration between the two premier organizations in India’s mineral exploration sector.
MECL, a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Mines, was carved out of GSI in 1972 and has since evolved into a leading agency for detailed and regional mineral exploration. During the discussions, both leaders reviewed MECL’s ongoing contributions to GSI under the National Geophysical Mapping Programme (NGPM), which generates critical baseline geophysical data across India.
Future collaboration plans were also deliberated, focusing on technology-driven mineral exploration, advanced analytical services, and emerging domains in the sector. The dialogue underscored a shared commitment to enhance India’s mineral exploration capabilities and support sustainable development in the mining and resources sector.
