New Delhi, January 21, 2026:
NHPC Limited has successfully synchronised Unit–3 (250 MW) of its flagship 8×250 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHEP) with the National Grid at 9:00 PM on January 21, 2026, marking another major milestone towards full commissioning of India’s largest hydroelectric project.

With this achievement, NHPC has added another 250 MW of clean hydropower capacity to the national grid, further strengthening grid stability and supporting India’s renewable energy goals.


Leadership Commends Project Team

On the occasion, Shri Bhupender Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director, NHPC, expressed his sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Power, Government of India, the Governments of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, and former NHPC leadership for their sustained support throughout the project’s execution.

He lauded the efforts of the Subansiri Project team led by Shri Rajendra Prasad, Executive Director & Head of Project, stating that the successful synchronisation of Unit–3 reflects NHPC’s strong technical capabilities and project execution excellence. Shri Gupta added that the milestone will enable the phased commissioning of the remaining units of the project.

Once fully commissioned, the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project will become India’s largest hydroelectric power project, playing a crucial role in meeting national energy requirements while promoting sustainable and renewable power generation.

Shri Rajendra Prasad, Executive Director & Head of Project, expressed gratitude to NHPC Management and Corporate teams, as well as the key executing agencies involved in the project:

He also acknowledged the cooperation of local stakeholders and encouraged the project team to continue their focused efforts towards the completion and commissioning of the remaining units of the Subansiri Lower HEP.
