ONGC Bids Farewell to Executive Director Rajesh Sharma
New Delhi: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has bid farewell to Shri Rajesh Sharma, Executive Director, on his superannuation, marking the culmination of an illustrious career spanning more than three and a half decades dedicated to strengthening India's energy security.
A Mechanical Engineer by training, Shri Sharma joined ONGC in 1989 and went on to build a distinguished career across some of the company's most challenging drilling operations. Beginning his journey on the offshore rig Sagar Gaurav in Mumbai Offshore, he later held key assignments in Sivasagar, Ankleshwar, Ahmedabad, Agartala, Mehsana and Mumbai.
Over the years, he undertook diverse operational and managerial responsibilities encompassing rig operations, drilling coordination, contract management and field leadership. His contributions across both onshore and offshore drilling environments played a significant role in enhancing ONGC's operational capabilities and promoting a culture of safety, efficiency and teamwork.
Among his landmark achievements, Shri Sharma successfully pioneered the drilling of ONGC's first onshore horizontal well at Ahmedabad, a milestone in the company's drilling history. He also spearheaded the implementation of the first Cyclic Steam Stimulation (CSS) wells at Mehsana, contributing to improved hydrocarbon recovery through advanced drilling and production techniques.
His outstanding performance in rig operations earned him the prestigious Chairman's Award for Best Operating Rig on two occasions, at Ahmedabad and Agartala.
During his long tenure at Mehsana, where he progressed from Rig Manager to Head Drilling Services, Shri Sharma played a crucial role in driving operational excellence and mentoring young drilling professionals. His leadership style, characterized by technical expertise and a people-centric approach, earned him widespread respect across the organization.
