POWERGRID Acquires NES Pune East New Transmission Limited to Expand Maharashtra Transmission Network

New Delhi, 12 March 2026POWERGRID Corporation of India Limited, a leading central transmission utility, has successfully acquired NES Pune East New Transmission Limited (NPENTL) under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route. The acquisition was finalized on 12th March 2026 from the Bid Process Coordinator, PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL).

NPENTL, incorporated on 29th March 2025, is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) set up for the “Network Expansion Scheme in Maharashtra for removal of transmission constraints in Pune Region-I (765/400 kV AIS Pune East)”, operating on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis. The project includes:

  • Establishment of a 765kV AIS substation at Ahilyanagar District

  • 765kV and 400kV transmission lines across Maharashtra

  • Bay extension works at existing substations

The acquisition does not fall under related-party transactions, and POWERGRID had no prior interest in NPENTL. Approvals for transmission licenses and adoption of transmission charges will be obtained from the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission post-acquisition.

The total consideration for the acquisition was approximately Rs. 8.05 crore, including 10,000 equity shares at Rs. 10 each, along with the assets and liabilities of NPENTL as of 12th March 2026. POWERGRID now holds 100% control of NPENTL.
