New Delhi: State-run Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has approved an investment of ₹173.14 crore for the augmentation of power transmission infrastructure in Kerala. The decision was cleared by the company’s Committee of Directors on Investment on Projects at its meeting held on January 30, 2026.

The approved project involves the augmentation of one 500 MVA, 400/220 kV Inter-Connecting Transformer (ICT – 3rd) at the Thrissur VSC HVDC Station. The project is aimed at strengthening grid reliability and enhancing power transfer capability in the southern region, particularly to support Kerala’s growing electricity demand.

According to the disclosure made under Regulation 30 of SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, the project is scheduled for commissioning by August 21, 2027.

The investment underscores POWERGRID’s continued focus on expanding and modernising India’s transmission network, especially high-capacity HVDC systems that play a critical role in integrating renewable energy and ensuring grid stability.
