POWERGRID Inaugurates India’s First 315 MVA Synthetic Ester Oil Filled Transformer at Bhiwadi
New Delhi: In a major step toward strengthening India’s green energy infrastructure, POWERGRID on 14 January 2026, inaugurated the country’s first 315 MVA, 400/220/33 kV Synthetic Ester Oil filled Transformer at its Bhiwadi Sub-station.
The landmark installation was inaugurated by Dr. R. K. Tyagi, Chairman and Managing Director, POWERGRID, in the presence of the company’s senior leadership including Shri G. Ravisankar, Director (Finance); Shri Naveen Srivastava, Director (Operations); Shri Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra, Director (Projects); Shri Naveen Kumar, Chief Vigilance Officer; Shri Shiv Tapasya Paswan, Independent Director; and Shri Alok Sharma, Executive Director, NR-I.
This pioneering transformer represents a significant technological advancement in India’s power transmission sector. The use of synthetic ester oil offers enhanced fire safety, superior environmental performance, and improved reliability compared to conventional mineral oil–based transformers. The technology is biodegradable and has a higher flash point, making it safer and more eco-friendly, especially in densely populated and environmentally sensitive areas.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. R. K. Tyagi highlighted that the project is not only a milestone in technological innovation but also a strong reaffirmation of POWERGRID’s commitment to India’s green energy mission and sustainable development goals. The new transformer aligns with the nation’s vision for cleaner, safer, and more resilient power infrastructure.
The Bhiwadi sub-station plays a critical role in strengthening the power supply network of Rajasthan and adjoining regions. The addition of this high-capacity, environmentally friendly transformer will significantly enhance grid reliability while reducing environmental risks.
