Priya Ranjan Enters Race for SAIL CMD; Veteran Steel Executive Among Key Contenders
New Delhi, 9 March 2026: Priya Ranjan, currently serving as Director In-Charge of Bokaro Steel Plant, is in the running for the prestigious role of Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), the position set to fall vacant on 3 April 2026.
With over three decades of experience in India’s steel sector, Mr. Ranjan has held several senior leadership positions within SAIL, including Executive Director (Operations) at the Corporate Office, New Delhi, and leadership roles spanning technical operations, production planning, and corporate strategy.
An alumnus of BIT Sindri (B.E. in Metallurgy) and IMT Ghaziabad (Post Graduate Diploma in Management, Finance), Priya Ranjan began his career in the non-ferrous sector, working with copper and copper alloys in Mumbai before joining SAIL in 1994. He started as a Junior Manager at the Steel Melting Shop, ISP Burnpur, and progressively held key positions in steelmaking, plant expansion, and operational efficiency.
Over the years, Mr. Ranjan has contributed significantly to SAIL’s operational excellence. He has overseen plant operations, mine and colliery management, raw material security planning, and coal blend optimization, and played a pivotal role in organizing the annual business plans of SAIL. His experience also extends internationally, having managed operations at ICVL, Mozambique.
Known for his commitment, integrity, and forward-looking approach, Priya Ranjan is widely respected for driving innovation, sustainability, and safety across SAIL’s operations. If appointed CMD, he is expected to continue strengthening SAIL’s role as a key contributor to India’s steel sector and industrial growth.
