RVNL Opens New Railway Line in Jharkhand for coal transportation

Under the Ministry of Railways, eminent Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has effectively opened the 10.47 km Sigsigi-Karkatta-Untari Road railway section in Jharkhand.
Under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya division of the East Central Railway Zone, this development is absolutely essential for the Sonnagar-Patratu Third Line Project, a major railway artery for coal movement.

On March 13 following a CRS inspection, this recently finished stretch was opened for train operations. One of Indian Railways' busiest goods routes, the Sonnagar-Patratu corridor is absolutely vital in the coal supply system. This 291km third-line project passes through Latehar, Palamu, Garhwa, Jharkhand's Aurangabad districts as well as Ramgarh, Hazaribagh.

RVNL has started about 307 km of railway lines, including new lines, doubling, and metro projects, as of the fiscal year 2024–25.
Several improvements, including electrification and a modernised Distributed Electronic Interlocking (EI) signalling system at the railway stations of Sigsigi, Karkatta, and Untari Road, included the commissioning of this part. To further train movements, track changes including installation and removal of turnouts and switch expansion joints were also carried out.

By use of a modern third line and signalling systems, the project guarantees speedier coal transportation and hence more effective coal-loaded train operations.
This dual-direction capability guarantees a continuous coal supply to power plants, reduces congestion, and increases capacity, so supporting India's energy security and hence promoting economic growth
