SAIL Commissions 1,750 m³/hr Effluent Treatment Plant at Bokaro Steel Plant
New Delhi: State-owned steel major Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has commissioned a 1,750 cubic metres per hour (m³/hr) Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) at its Bokaro Steel Plant, marking a major step forward in wastewater recycling and water conservation.
The newly commissioned facility is designed to significantly enhance reuse of treated wastewater, reduce freshwater consumption, and strengthen environmental compliance at one of India’s largest integrated steel plants.
Boost to Sustainable Steelmaking
The initiative aligns with SAIL’s long-term strategy of sustainable and environmentally responsible steel production, focusing on:
-
Efficient wastewater treatment and recycling
-
Reduced dependence on freshwater resources
-
Improved operational sustainability
-
Compliance with evolving environmental norms
The Effluent Treatment Plant will enable Bokaro Steel Plant to optimize water usage across operations, contributing to a lower environmental footprint while supporting production efficiency.
Commitment to Environmental Stewardship
SAIL continues to invest in green technologies and infrastructure across its plants to promote responsible resource management. The commissioning of this high-capacity ETP underscores the company’s commitment to circular water management and eco-friendly industrial practices.
With initiatives like this, SAIL reinforces its role as a leader in sustainable steelmaking in India, balancing industrial growth with environmental responsibility.
